  • ackroyd 17728-19"Dan Davis Corp. Aerials. March 29, 1972." (Davis Industrial Park, Guilds Lake on NW Yeon. In picture is S. J. Nudelman & Son. Scrap iron and metal. 2702 NW Nela. (Environmental Cleanup Site Information ECSI #966) If you google this address, it drops a pin directly on a rail line at the point where it bends slightly east and ends. The end of the rail is directly in the center of the Nudelman junkyard. Stanford J. Nudelman owned a scrap metal business at 3210 SW 2nd through 1965. I do not own the 1966 directory, but I found a classified ad in the May 19, 1966 Oregonian advertising to hire a truck driver placed by S. J. Nudelman at 2707 NW Nela. In 1967 he is listed at 2702 NW Nela and is listed there in directories and phone books through 2010. Nudelman is still in business today at the same address and phone number.

  • 9912-09A. A hobo pauses for a track-side dinner in his long journey through Montana and Wyoming around the summer of 1947. He has improvised a stove made of scrap steel and rocks in the shade of an industrial cabin. The photographer made several exposures while he ate a soup-like entree with bread and an apple.

  • 8609-A36. Looking east at the now-gone South Auditorium district. Most of this was cleared between 1960 and 1962. In the lower left is the Ahavai Achim Synagogue at the corner of SW 3rd & Sherman, an intersection that doesn't exist anymore. On the waterfront is the Alaska Junk Company and Zidell scrap yards, where two ships are being dismantled. On the right is the Sound Wrecking Co., 2617 SW 2nd. It was wrecked to make way for a Ross Island bridge approach.
