  • 0610-03 Babe Ruth visited Portland in December, 1926, arriving Monday the 13th on the train from Tacoma. He appeared nightly for one week at Pantages delivering his vaudeville act. On the 17th he played a large benefit performance outdoors. At the Police Museum is a autographed baseball and photo of Babe Ruth with Portland's Chief of Police Jenkins and in that photo Ruth is wearing the same hat. Babe Ruth departed Portland on the 19th.

The north side of the drive-in was bordered by Con Battin Road; the east, or right side, by Price Fuller Road; and the main arterial that runs on the left is 82nd Avenue.  the area is now dominated by box stores, malls, and fast food outlets, and I-205. The drive-in theater is currently site of G I Joe's Sports & Outdoors

  • 0001-A167. Minor White napping. Minor White (1908-1976) moved to Portland after the summer of 1937. He formed a camera club at the YMCA where he lived. The club built a small darkroom and had an exhibit space in the lobby. This photo was taken during a group outing on the Clackamas River. The date is shortly before June 1938, which is when the photographer Lawrence Smith dropped out of the camera club. On the blanket next to Minor is Larry Smith's camera, a Zeiss Zeca with Tessar lens.
