January 6, 1950. caption published in Oregonian January 22,  1950 pg. 23: "This two-story brick building, 320 SW 1st avenue, built in 1869, is believed oldest commercial structure in the city."  and in the text: "Courthouse records do not show who built and owned the building at 320 SW 1st avenue in 1860. But Title & Trust company records show that in 1865 it was acquired by Jacob H. Seller."

  • Y-580131-03. Tom Mukaida, 72, who as a teen-ager immigrant from Japan about 1903, worked in this cafe at 1140 SW 1st Ave., says good-by to the restaurant, which for 15 years has been his own 'Tom's Cafe." The block was being demolished to make way for new approaches to the Hawthorne Bridge

  • CS00331-08. Corley Sawmill Machinery, the building facing Skidmore Fountain, 106 SW 1st St., Portland.  This is known as the Ladd & Tilton Bank, built in 1868, demolished in 1954. This was one of the finest cast iron buildings in Portland.

  • 8702-76.  Edward Bruns Glass Studio, 68 1/2 First street in Portland. Using contemporary addresses, this is 224 SW First Ave., between Pine and Oak. The “1/2” denotes its on the second story. The building is still standing. Ca. 1907-1908.

  • 9119-2368-B18-1.  While moving Ahavai Achim Synagogue, about July 3, 1962, the structure fell apart. The building sat in the middle of the road for awhile, and was then demolished on August 23, 1962. Photo similar to B17-1 published in the July 4, 1962 Oregonian with caption: "Serious damage to structural supports in Temple Ahavath Achim have delayed moving the 31-year-old structure, according to a report Tuesday from the movers, LeBeck & Son of Portland, The building, at 2400 SW Sherman St., is to be moved to SW Barbur Boulevard and Gibbs Street to make way for Urban Renewal project." In the accompanying article it states "The temple has been moved aout 100 feet west of its original foundations and now sits near the intersection of SW Third Avenue and Sherman Street, both of which are closed."<br />
The building was demolished on Thursday, August 23, 1962.
