  • 9119-2368-B18-1. While moving Ahavai Achim Synagogue, about July 3, 1962, the structure fell apart. The building sat in the middle of the road for awhile, and was then demolished on August 23, 1962. Photo similar to B17-1 published in the July 4, 1962 Oregonian with caption: "Serious damage to structural supports in Temple Ahavath Achim have delayed moving the 31-year-old structure, according to a report Tuesday from the movers, LeBeck & Son of Portland, The building, at 2400 SW Sherman St., is to be moved to SW Barbur Boulevard and Gibbs Street to make way for Urban Renewal project." In the accompanying article it states "The temple has been moved aout 100 feet west of its original foundations and now sits near the intersection of SW Third Avenue and Sherman Street, both of which are closed."<br />
The building was demolished on Thursday, August 23, 1962.

  • 9722-26-1. Elevated parking garage. Pidgeon (sic) Hole Parking, at its original location at 801 SW Stark. The view is looking northeast to the the corner of SW 9th & Stark. The structure extends the full block down to SW Park. This picture was taken in the summer of 1954, before the entire structure was moved two blocks south to 820 SW Alder in the mid-1950’s. The mis-spelling of Pigeon was the least of their problems, the reason they went out of business is because the unreliable elevator marooned customer’s cars on the upper levels until repairs could be completed. The lot included a Texaco Gas Station. (source: license plate is 1954, city directory searches, interview with Dave Hite who worked there when they went out of business)
