ackroyd-01177-47. Timberline. December 16, 1948. 41/48Repairing the Magic Mile chair lift. "Prior to weather clearing on Dec 16, 1948 there had been an utterly miserable blizzard for days. Weather so bad that some of the Magic Mile cable was completely blown off the towers, some chairs being blown all the way 'round in 360 degrees. Measured weight of snow and ice on cables and chairs was estimated 25# to the foot. Repeated sledgehammer blows required to clear the buildup. Great ingenuity (was required) to rotate the chairs in a reverse 360."
