1940s Heavyweight Boxing Match

Y-480803C-01. Pacific Coast Heavyweight Title fight at Auditorium. Roy Hawkins vs. Bill Petersen (winner). "Good one of Petersen through ropes, ran AP". August 3, 1948. referee: Ralph Gruman. "The crowd stood and screamed at the stoppage by the referee, and threw paper into the ring. Hawkins attempted to get at Gruman until his arms were pinioned by his handlers. He then tried to attack Peterson. Firemen and police restored order. Hawkins was knocked down in the 1st, and Petersen in the 5th round."(caption from Tacoma News Tribune)
