Sons of the Pioneers at the Portland Airport 1949

Ackroyd 01571-7 Governor Douglas McKay and mounted horsemen of Portland’s Western Riders turned out in full regalia at Portland-Columbia Airport on Wednesday June 15, 1949 to help Western Air Lines celebrate inauguration of its new nonstop service from Portland to Los Angeles. After the Sons of the Pioneers were greeted by the Governor, the group rode downtown to J. K. Gills record store to perform a thirty minute live radio broadcast over KWJJ and KPOJ.
